Relationships can be built, improved and sustained when conversations have clearly defined aims, the right approach is used and the right people are involved. Policies and decisions are better when they are informed by an understanding of who they will affect and how.

Understanding and finding good answers to the challenges that face us, and making the most of the opportunities available are possible only when conversations are held widely and well.  Good engagement, research and consultation can generate innovative ways to tackle the wicked problems and help us to realise the potential of new ideas.

And most importantly:  publics have a right to inform the direction in which the world they live in changes; not just through the ballot box but through active and ongoing involvement in shaping the policies and decisions that affect them everyday.
